Gole di Tiberio

Gole di Tiberio

About 1 hour from Isnello it is possible to visit the Gorges of Tiberius. These are located in the border territory between the municipalities of San Mauro Castelverde and Castelbuono, along the Pollina River.
Unique in the entire Madonite district, they present characteristics that make them an environment of extraordinary landscape impact and considerable natural interest.
The walls smoothed by river activity constitute an ideal habitat for numerous plant and animal species, especially birds, typical of rocky environments.
The watercourse is characterized by a series of small lakes, small waterfalls and water features and is framed by vegetation typical of these environments and rich in oleanders, willows, poplars, rushes and many other herbaceous species.
Inside the gorges it is possible to observe: u Miricu, the numerous nests of various species of birds, gastropod fossils, the brigands' boulder that acts as a natural bridge over the gorges, light plays, and pristine and primordial vegetation.

The gorges are a hiking destination and place of great interest.
It is possible to participate in raft excursions lasting about 2 hours.
These involve crossing the 400-meter-long gorge and a walk along the Pollina River, which, depending on the period, takes place downstream to the small gorge or upstream to the small lakes, in both cases it is possible to swim.
