In the heart of the Madonie Park is preserved a treasure, Abies Nebrodensis.
"The species differs from the silver fir in the smaller size of the adult plants, which reach a maximum height of 15 meters; the trunk is squat and the crown is more expanded, the scaffolding of the branches, is cross-shaped and the Sicilian name of the species, which is known as "arvuli cruci cruci" or "arvulu caccia diavuli," is based on this characteristic.
At the end of the last century this species had been given up for extinction, but in 1958 some specimens were spotted in the locality of Madonna degli Angeli.
To ensure that they were protected, a nature reserve was established in 1984 to protect the few surviving specimens (about 30) and many other endemic species in the area; in addition, a series of protection projects were initiated.

From the Portella Colla crossroads, arriving in the locality of Quacella, it is possible to begin the nature trail that leads to the Fir of the Madonie.
